Junes Verne

Around the VVorld in Eighty Days occupies a very important position in Jules Verne series of EXTRAORDINARY VOYAGES. İt has been very popular in the English-speaking vvorld because of the nationality of the central figüre.His Journey to the Centre of the Earth, Tvventy Thousand Leagues under the Sea, and From the Earth to the Moon are science fictions. But Around the VVorld in Eighty Days is not a science fiction. İt is the only novel to depend on the theme of space and time. The route of Foggs journey is the quickest and goes through the most places occupied by the British. The trip is stripped to bare essentials. Everything else is cut out. Fix, Fogg and Passepartout can never be really lost. They keep bumping into one another. Humour is also an integral part of the story, making it thoroughly enjoyable.

3.5 Eighty Days was a fascinating account of two women's race around the world, that of Nellie Bly and Elizabeth Bisland. The race was not intended to be a race at all. The idea was to outdo the fictional character Phileas Fogg's eighty day journey around the world, an idea that Bly had been pressing to the World, the paper in which she worked. On October 2, 1872, Phileas Fogg accepts a wager proposed by the men at his club to go around the world in eighty days or forfeit 20,000 pounds. Phileas leaves that evening with Passepartout on a train bound for Paris. Many men in London begin placing bets that Phileas Fogg will not be able to make it back to London in eighty days.
